Compliance

Supporting the open source ecosystem that allows software to be freely used, modified, and shared.

At Cisco, we believe open source is an important ingredient for innovation. Cisco’s Open Source Program Office (OSPO) stewards the company’s open source efforts; creating and contributing to open source software, as well as complying with the various licenses and agreements governing the open source ecosystem.

When it comes to compliance, Cisco supports the Open Source Initiative (OSI), who play an important role in supporting, protecting, and promoting open source community-building, education, and public advocacy of non-proprietary software. As stewards of the Open Source Definition, their work in reviewing open source licenses is vital to software freedom and transparency across the ecosystem.

Cisco supports and relies on OSI approved licenses to continue contributing to and collaborating on open source projects and initiatives. We look to licenses with strong community and broadly understood requirements, which you can see a list of on the OSI website.
